Composition in the Park

Composition in the Park

Sunday 26 July
Lytham - 11am - 2 Hours
Jayne Walsh
Come and join us as we explore composition in photography.

Composition is one of the most critical elements in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty. You will find formal rules, opinions, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.

Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.

This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.

Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds

Saturday 05 September
Lytham - 11am - 2 Hours
Jayne Walsh
One of the most basic tenets of composition is the Rule of Thirds. Although most people are familiar with this technique it is often forgotten in the haste to take a photo. However you ignore it at your peril as it can make an average snap into something which has tension and dynamism.

In this meetup we will practice using the Rule of Thirds in a setting full of photographic possibility.

The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

I recently attended Jayne's Using Motion Blur in Photography course with Blackpool Photography Group and had another excellent experience. Following on from the Beginners Photography class at Lytham Hall, this course was equally well-structured and enjoyable. Jayne's teaching style is clear and engaging, making what could be a tricky technique much easier to understand. The hands-on practice was invaluable, and I particularly enjoyed the section on panning vehicles - I can't wait to put this into practice during my F1 trip in July! The course struck a great balance between technical explanation and practical application, giving us plenty of opportunities to experiment and refine our technique. Jayne was patient and encouraging throughout, offering helpful feedback and tips. I'd highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to add creative motion blur techniques to their photography toolkit. Jayne's expertise and enthusiasm make learning both effective and fun. Already looking forward to the next course!

I had a fantastic experience. The instructor Jayne, was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic about photography, which made learning really enjoyable. Despite some challenging weather at the start, we got plenty of hands-on practice around the beautiful grounds of Lytham Hall. The practical exercises were well-structured and helped reinforce what I had learned, and Jayne took the time to discuss my work and answer my questions thoughtfully. What really stood out was the genuine interest in helping me develop my skills. I also appreciated the additional resources provided, including a helpful cheat sheet and video recommendations to continue learning after the class. I'd highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to get started with photography or improve their skills. It was a great day and excellent value for money.

I managed to learn quite a lot based around the Exposure Triangle. I finally used my "M"(Manual) setting on my DSLR. Good sized group (4) meant you could easily get time from the Host. The Quick Capture Cards sent out by the host after the event are very useful.
